چکیده

In cellular networks including Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, how to balance the load is indispensable because traffic load and local user densities vary dynamically. A load balancing problem occurs when available wireless resources are not enough to support the requirements of users. Such a problem may lead to blocked or dropped calls and degrade the quality of service. This paper proposes a mobility technique with adaptive handovers based on load balancing. In the proposed technique, a heavy loaded cell adaptively configures handover hysteresis threshold differently for each neighboring cell according to the load information of that neighboring cell. A simple prediction technique is also used for reducing the number of unnecessary handovers that may arise from load balancing. In the simulation results, the proposed technique shows lower blocking and drop rates for new and handover calls, which reveals its enhancement of the resources utilization and the service quality for LTE systems.

Mobility Load Balancing Based Adaptive Handover in Downlink Lte Self-organizing Networks

This article investigates mobility load balancing (MLB) algorithm implementation through network simulator (ns-3) in long term evolution (LTE) systems employing orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) for downlink (DL) data transmission. MLB is introduced by the third generation partnership project (3GPP) as a key target of LTE self-organizing networks (SONs) [1]. Our contribution...

Load balancing via inter-frequency handovers in LTE networks

The main objective of this thesis was to develop and evaluate the performance of a load balancing mechanism using inter-frequency handovers in LTE networks considering multiple co-located frequency bands being deployed. The analyses were made regarding the 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz frequency bands, in urban scenarios. The addressed parameters were mainly network load, number of active users and th...

Handover Adaptations for Load Balancing Scheme in Macrocell / Femtocell LTE Network

In the purpose of offering extensively higher data rates, higher systems throughput and lower latency, the femtocell systems in 3GPP LTE system has premeditate. In a large number of femtocells, there are too many prehandover and unnecessary handover processes frequently among femtocells may occur. Also, call failure due to handover may increase when the mobile moves from one serving cell to ano...

Modeling, implementation and performance analysis of mobility load balancing for LTE downlink data transmission

We propose in this paper a simulation implementation of Self-Organizing Networks (SON) optimization related to mobility load balancing (MLB) for LTE systems using ns-3 [1]. The implementation is achieved toward two MLB algorithms dynamically adjusting handover (HO) parameters based on the Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurements. Such adjustments are done with respect to loads of bot...

A Soft Computing Approach to Dynamic Load Balancing in 3GPP LTE

A major objective of the 3GPP LTE standard is the provision of high-speed data services. These services must be guaranteed under varying radio propagation conditions, to stochastically distributed mobile users. A necessity for determining and regulating the traffic load of eNodeBs naturally ensues. Load balancing is a self-optimization operation of self-organizing networks (SON). It aims at ens...
